The Climbing Hangar

The Climbing Hangar first came to Matrix Consult through a personal recommendation – a contact who’d worked with us and rated the experience highly. What started as a single project has grown into a long-running partnership spanning several new sites and refurbishments across TCH’s estate.

TCH’s ambition was straightforward but demanding: take their new site process to the next level, building something refined, repeatable and professional from pre-leasehold agreement right through to practical completion and aftercare – and open consistently high-quality sites faster, to keep pace with the estate’s growth.

That wasn’t a small ask. At around nine months per build, TCH’s programme was holding back how quickly they could grow. No two of their sites are the same either – from listed buildings to entirely new regions with regulatory processes TCH had never encountered before.

We focused on compressing TCH’s build programme without compromising on quality – bringing structure and rigour to the entire lifecycle, from pre-lease through to practical completion and aftercare. That discipline is what took the typical build from nine months down to three.

Every TCH project gets a tailor-made approach rather than a one-size-fits-all template, because no two sites are the same. We’ve worked less like an external consultant and more like an extension of TCH’s own team – on hand for whatever a project throws up, adaptable enough to find a route through it.

Two projects tested that adaptability directly. TCH Matchworks, a Grade II listed building, came with real constraints on what work could be carried out – we guided TCH through every one of them. TCH Edinburgh was the estate’s first venture into Scotland, entirely new regulatory territory, and we were instrumental in securing the Building Warrant without a hitch.
